William served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-29 "Calamity Jane" #42-24589, 25th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Madison County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 3, 1942 in La Fayette, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

B-29 #42-24589 took off, with a crew of 12, from Chakulia Airfield, India on a combat mission over Singapore.

They are believed to have either been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire or attacked by a Japanese fighter plane. They are also believed to have crashed at sea southwest of Singapore.

William was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

William also has a "Cenotaph" in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Frankton, Indiana.

William Riley Fesler was the son of William Lee Fesler and Ida Ellen Etchison. Growing up he worked in his family Hardware Store owned by his father. He had two sisters: Loretta & Bernice. He married Dortha Jean Easten in 1941. He entered the Military Service on 03 April 1942 in Lafayette, Indiana. He died in Singapore 01 February 1945. He was a 1st Liet. in the Army
