Son of William L. and Ida Etchison Fesler.

1st Lt. Fesler was the Co-Pilot on a B-29 named "Calamity Jane", that was part of the 25 Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, 20th Air Force. The B-29 took off from its home base in Chakulia,India on 1 Feb 1945 and was last reported SW of Singapore with its #3 engine on fire after being hit by anti-aircraft fire or an enemy fighter. The crew was never heard from again. No wreckage was ever discovered. The entire crew is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery.
