Joseph Kolar
Joseph Kolar, son of Josef and Frances Kolar, was born on a farm near Cuba, Kan., January 12, 1875 and passed away at his home in Cuba, Kan., September 12, 1956, at the age of 80 years and 8 months.
Mr. Kolar spent practically all his life in the Cuba neighborhood. He received his education in the rural schools of the community and upon attaining young manhood he took up the occupation of the farm. he continued in that work for nearly half a century. After World War II he turned over his work on the farm to his children and retired to his home in Cuba, where he spent the last 11 years of life.
On December 7, 1902 he married Miss Anna Sterba, also of Cuba. To this union were born seven children, 2 daughters and 5 sons., all of whom are living.
Preceding him in death are, his parents, Josef and Frances Kolar, one brother Frank, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Tuma and Mrs Kosie Kauer and one little great-grandchild, Billy Kolar.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Anna Kolar of Cuba and his loving children, Mrs. Rosie Plevka of Belleville, Kan., Mrs. Albina Fritz of Washington, Kan., and his 5 sons Joseph of Lawrence, Kan., Edward of Haddam, Kan., Erney of Cuba, Frank of Washington, Kan., and Ben Kolar of Chelsea, Ia., 20 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren: also, two brothers, James Kolar of Republic, Kan., Milek of Haddam, and three sisters, Mrs. Frances Cicerie of Morrowville, Kan., Mrs. Emma Novak and Mrs. Mary Blecha of Belleville, Kan., a large circle of nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Kolar was a lover of Nature. He delighted in seeing things grow in the fields and even during the years of his retirement, he took special care and seemed to charm things to grow in his irrigated garden. Perhaps the burden of this withering drouth was too heavy for him to bear.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Tibbetts Brothers Chapel conducted by the Rev. Amos Rundus. Burial in Kopsa cemetery.
