Mrs. Harvey Kauer
Josie Kolar was born August 2, 1872 at Red Oak, Ia., and died March 4, 1949 at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 2 days.
At the age of two years, she moved with her parents to a farm near, Cuba, where she endured the hardships of pioneer life. Since she was the oldest of a large family, much of the heavy work was done by her.
On January 31, 1893, when she was 20 years old, she was united in marriage to Harvey Kauer and to this union were born 11 children, six daughter and five son. Three sons and a daughter died in infancy.
During the first year of their married life, the Kauers lived on a farm near Wayne. In 1894 they purchased a farm east of Cuba where they lived for 37 years. In 1930 they retired and moved to Cuba where they lived until her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Kauer celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary Sunday, January 30, 1949. She was a member of Z.C.B.J. fraternal organization No. 52 at Cuba. When she was a small girl she was baptized a Presbyterian and she attended church as long as her health permitted. She was in poor health for several years but she kept on doing her duties and was happy when she was busy.
