Only barbarians are not curious about where they come from, how they came to be where they are, where they appear to be going, whether they wish to go there, and if so, why, and if not, why not.

“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.”

actively researching the surnames:
Shelton (of Shelton Laurel)
as i research these surnames, i sometimes run across obituaries of others I'm not related to, with details i find intriguing. even though i'm not related, i either send the info to the person who maintains the memorial, or i create a memorial for the person.
if you find a memorial for a person you're related to in my virtual cemetery for "the unrelated", don't hesitate to make contact and request a transfer.
