Elizabeth is the daughter of Judge Thomas M. and Sarah A. Young Johnson. She was born in Kentucky and died at the home of her son Judge Minos Talbot Gordy, Jr., in Abbeville, LA.

Known to all as Betty, she grew up in Kentucky and to my current knowledge, had 5 siblings. Those siblings are:

Sarah Louisa Johnson, Willie, Shipe 1825 - 1907
James Johnson 1828–
Agnes Young Johnson Crosby 1830-1851
Mira Johnson 1833–1880
Charlotte Thomas Johnson Gordy 1839–

On 25 Apr 1845, Betty married William H. Moore in Washington Co., TX. They had two children. They are:

Alfred Hite Moore 1847 – 1903
Mary Agnes "Mollie" Moore Hudson 1849 – 1883

On the 1850 Census, Betty lived with her mother and siblings after the death of her first husband William H. Moore. Her mother Sarah who was widowed, a brother, James (M. or W.), and sisters, Charlotte T. and Mira Johnson were in the household. They are all living in Washington Co., TX by 1845. according to this census.

William died before 1850 but burial location is not known at this time. On 12 Mar 1852, Betty married Minos Talbot Gordy, Sr. in Washington Co., TX. By 1855, they had moved to St. Mary Parish, LA and were living in the Franklin area. They raised Betty's two children from her first marriage and together, had 6 girls and 3 boys. They are connected below.

According to her Obituary in the New Orleans "Daily Picayune":

"Betty died at the home of her son, Judge Minos T. Gordy, Jr., in Abbeville, leaving to mourn her passing, a husband and several children along with extended family. Her body being moved to Franklin for burial."

A note on Betty's siblings: It is believed Sarah died as a baby in KY but no record. I do not know what happened to James but Mira and Charlotte moved from Washington Co., TX to St. Mary Pa., LA along with Betty and her mother Sarah Johnson. This move was after Betty married Minos T. Gordy as this was his home. Mira died and is buried in New Orleans. It is possible this is a different Mira as it is spelled "Myra" but she is the only one I've found so I apply the 50-50 rule. Charlotte married Minos Gordy's brother Michael Benjamin and the burial location of Charlotte and Michael has not been verified. I expect it is Franklin Cemetery where most all their family members are laid to rest but do not have current verification.

Betty and Minos are my Gx2 Grandparents. I've spent many years researching their lives and I feel this is an accurate accounting of thier history. It is based on citations and records provided by digging into obscure files and talking with historically knowledgeable people from the areas of their lives. I hope it helps others who have interest in their history and that it honors their memory.
