Minos is the son of Dr. John Collins and Frances Hearn Gordy. Born in Maryland, he had 5 brothers and 4 sisters and to my current knowledge they are:

Alfred R Gordy 1833 – 1850
Asbury Wesley Gordy 1835 – 1869
William Alfred Gordy 1838 – 1890
Elizabeth Caroline Gordy 1839 –
Michael Benjamin Gordy 1841 –
Mary B Gordy 1842 –
John Thomas Gordy 1847 – 1917
Francis Louisa Gordy 1850 – 1950
Martha Moriah Gordy 1852 –

Minos parents moved to St. Mary Parish from Maryland when he was a young boy. His father worked as a local physician and owned a local hotel in Franklin.

Minos and brother Michael moved to Texas as young men to work and there they met their wives. Minos married wife Elizabeth Ann Johnson Moore. "Betty" was a widow with two small children. On 12 Mar 1852, Minos and Betty married in Washington Co, TX. The children brought into this marriage were a son and daughter. They are:

Alfred Hite Moore 1847 – 1903
Mary Agnes "Mollie" Moore 1849 – 1883

Minos and Betty had 6 girls and 3 boys together and they are to my knowledge:

Fannie Louisa Gordy Morris 1853 – 1881
Sarah "Sallie" E Gordy, Friend, Hudson 1855 – 1930
Emma Gertrude Gordy Johnson, Crawford 1858 – 1935

Minos worked as a Carpenter and then in 1861, was commissioned into the Confederacy as:
Captain Minos T. Gordy - serving with the famous
St. Mary's Cannoneers
1st Battery/1st Louisiana Field Battery serving with Captain. Florian O. Cornay (Killed April 26,1864) at which time he took over command until mustering out 26 May, 1865.

Minos served as Sheriff of St. Mary Parish for 2 terms. His brother Michael Benjamin Gordy served with him as Town Marshall. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and he died at the home of his son, Walter Brown Gordy, in Abbeville, Vermillion Pa., LA.
