Sallie married John T. Friend, 26 Nov 1879 in St. Mary Pa. LA.. They had two daughters:
Addie Elnora Friend Simms
1880 – 1952
Betty E. "Betsey" Friend Garritson
1885 – 1953
John Friend died about 1889. Burial location currently unknown but most probable is St. Mary Pa., LA where he was living at the time of his death. Sallie later married Francis Benjamin "Frank" Hudson, 26 Jul 1890, in St. Mary Pa LA. Frank brought 9 children from a previous marriage and Sallie brought 2 from her marriage. Frank and Sallie then had 3 sons together. These sons were all raised in Bayou Sale along with all Sallie and Frank's previous children who were still at home. Their children have memorials on this website and are connected below. Sallie was a half sister to Frank's first wife Mary Agnes who died. Several of the Gordy and Hudson families married through the years as they were close friends and neighbors.
Frank and Sallie with failing health, left the land and the sugar business around 1916 and lived for a while in Iberia Pa., LA, with youngest son Richard Irving. They then moved closer to some of their children in the Pt. Arthur area of Jefferson County, Texas. Frank died in 1919, in Pt. Arthur, TX, and Sallie moved in with her eldest son Murphy Foster Hudson in Idabel, McCurtain Co., OK. She is shown to be living there on the 1920 Fed. Census and died that same year. This home on that Census consists of my grandparents and their young son and new baby daughter (my mother) and Sallie. My mother was newborn when her grandmother Sallie moved in. Sadly, Sallie died 7 months later. Her obituary below says her sons took her body by train, to Franklin, LA. That is their original home and it's believed this would have been for funeral services. She is buried in Pt. Arthur, TX in Greenlawn Cemetery known at time of her death as "City Cemetery". Sallie is buried next to Frank. Their markers were in the oldest part of the cemetery where some of them have sunk out of site or deteriorated completely through the years. Part of this cemetery was old "rice fields" and due to this type of soil, I've been told loss of headstones was a problem. This information was shared with me by a man who is very familiar with this history of this cemetery and of this county. Whatever happened, I feel the family would have marked the graves. The death date is extrapolated from data in the Obit and dates in the book where it was found.
Until then...rest peacefully and know we love and remember you my great grandmother Sallie...
