Rueben Deforest Trask was born March 26, 1845 in Peel Township, Wellington, Upper Canada. He was the son Of Simon and Catherine Denmead Trask. Rueben was the eleventh of twelve children. His parents were recent immigrants to Canada from England--early settlers in Upper Canada.

About 1870, Rueben, along with brothers Joseph and George Alexander, set out to make their own fortunes in a new frontier and moved to the new state of Kansas. Rueben and his brothers settled in Washington Township, Crawford County, Kansas.

Rueben Trask married Minerva Melissa Bennett on May 11, 1873 in Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri. They made their home in Crawford County, Kansas.

According to the History of Kansas written in 1883 by William Cutler, Rueben Trask was a prosperous farmer and stock raiser, owning 140 acres of improved land, including an orchard. Rueben and Minerva Trask had five sons who lived to adulthood, and when they became adults, one by one, they and their chosen spouses returned to their father's homeland of Canada. Rueben and Minerva remained in Kansas until 1920; then they joined their sons and families in Saskatchewan, Canada, settling in Harris.

Rueben and Minerva Trask had eight children; three died in childhood or infancy and are buried in Crawford County, Kansas. Their children were: Edward Ross (1874-1953); Effie Angeline (1877-1884); Clara Myrtle (1879-1884); Dow (1889-1889); Simeon Alexander (1881-1963); Commodore Arnold (1884-1967); Hugh Arthur (1886-1951)and Floyd Oscar (1893-1980).
