He married Ellen Minifie in 1862 in at Clifford, Canada. Two children were born in Canada: William Harry (1864-) and Herbert L. (1870-1965). The family immigrated from Canada to the U.S., first settling in Crawford County, Kansas in 1871, and then going to Montgomery County, Indiana in 1876. The youngest child, Nellie M. (1874-) was born in Kansas.
Joseph was a farmer for several years near Young's Chapel, then moved to Crawfordsville about 1898. Joseph Trask died April 24, 1908 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.
