Minerva Melissa Bennett was born September 18, 1850 in Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Zadok St. John Bennett and Minerva Ross Bennett. She was the eighth of twelve children.

The Bennett family moved from Indiana to Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri in 1869. Minerva Melissa Bennett married Rueben Deforest Trask May 11, 1873 in Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri. They made their home in Washington Township, Crawford County, Kansas where Rueben and two of his brothers had already settled. Rueben became a successful farmer and stock raiser in the area.

Rueben and Minerva Trask had eight children. Two daughters and a son died in early childhood or infancy and are buried in Crawford County, Kansas. Their five sons who grew to adulthood moved back to their father's home land of Canada in the early 1900's, settling in Saskatchewan. Their children were: Edward Ross (1874-1953); Effie Angeline (1877-1884); Clara Myrtle (1879-1884); Dow (1889-1889); Simeon Alexander (1881-1963); Commodore Arnold (1884-1967); Hugh Arthur (1886-1951); and Floyd Oscar (1893-1980).

Rueben and Minerva remained in Kansas until 1920 then moved back to Canada to Harris, Saskatchewan, Canada. Minerva was widowed in 1923.
