JOHN B. GONTJES -- John B. Gontjes an old and respected citizen died suddenly Saturday evening following a few days illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. F.F. Travis peached the sermon. Interment was made in the Sibley cemetery. The deceased was born in Eilsum, East Friesland, Germany, March 22, 1830 and had he lived until the 22nd of March he would have been 83 years old. On the 25 of April 1857 he was married to Jese Bruse. They came to America in 1868, residing in Illinois until 1893 when they removed to their farm south east of Sibley. About two years ago they removed to Sibley. He is survived by his widow and nine children. The children are L.P. Gontjes and Mrs. Ed Paygle of Melvin; John H. Gontjes and ;Mrs. John Schroder of Ocheyedan; James Gontjes, Mrs. Geo. Schuster, Mrs. Wm. Buchman, Mrs. Knud Schmidt and Miss Rosa Gontjes of Sibley. All of the chidlren attended the funeral. The deceased had been a consistent member of the Evangelical Church since 1871. He was an upright citizen, and husband and father, and splendid neighbor. He will be missed by his many friends and neighbors. A good old soul has gone to his reward.
