Funeral services for Samuel Newton Bennett, 77 years of age, were held Tuesday, May 31 from the Campbellsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Glenn A. Moore in charge assisted by Rev. Henry C. Hedgespeth. Burial was in the Saloma Cemetery. Mr. Bennett, son of the late Taylor and Martha Bennett, was born in Green County February 15, 1872. He departed this life Sunday, May 29 at 5 a.m. at his home on West Main Street. His sudden death came as a shock to his family and many friends. He professed faith in Christ at an early age in life and was a member of the Campbellsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bennett served with the Army in 1898 in the Spanish American War, was with Co. A. 5th Illinois. He united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Jones in 1897 and to this union two sons and one daughter was born. Surviving: Mrs. Louise Winzer of Pittsville, Ill. In 1905 he united in marriage to Miss Lela Risen, who preceded him 21 years ago. To this union three daughters were born. Surviving: Mrs. Roy Bell and Clarence Bennett, both of this city. In 1931 he united in marriage to Miss Rodie Lena Hunt and to this union four daughters were born: Beulah, Frances, Shelby Jean, and Opal Joyce, all at home. Besides wife and children, he is survived by three brothers and one sister: J. W. Bennett of St. Cloud, Fla.; Dave Bennett of Griddsville, Ill.; John Bennett of Bakersville, Calif.; and Mrs. Jannie Drake of Toledo, Ohio; eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were H. H. Montgomery, Noah Smith, Bob Arnold, Bud Spratt, Henry Mardis, and Cleoda Mardis.
