Alvin Leonard “Al” Lang, 69, 395 Regina Drive, south of Fort Collins, died Feb. 20 in Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.

He was born June 29, 1923 in St. Peter to Peter and Katherine Rome Lang.

He married Barbara M. Scheck on Feb. 13, 1948 in Stockton, Kan.

He was a carpenter and apartment owner. He servec in the U.S. Marine Corps form 1943 to 1946. He served in Okinawa, New Britain, New Guina, Gualdalcanal, China and Peliliu. He moved to Loveland in 1960 from Stockton. He has lived at his present address since September 1961.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church for 32 years. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 41, National Horse Shoe Pitchers Association, Loveland Horse Shoe Arena. He was instrumental in the layout of the Loveland horseshoe court and Knaub Shoe Arena. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. He had a large baseball cap collection and a large tool collection, which he added to over many years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Lang, south of Fort Collins; a son, Mark Allen Lang and wife Karlin, Loveland; a daughter, Darlene Van Buren and husband Randall, Berthoud; brothers, Wendelin Lang, Wheeling, Ill., Albert Lang, Claremore, Okla., and Clarence Lang, Atwood, Kan.; sisters, Regina Dreiling, Hutchinson, Kan., Rena Rizzola, Dearfield, Ill., Anne Rohleder, Northbrook, Ill., Leona Stone, Canby, Ore., Florina Meier, Hoxie, Kan., and Armella Kinderknecht, Buffalo, Grove, Ill.; and grandchildren, Jaimie and Tammy Van Buren and Dana Robbins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Lang; sister Alvina Topf and infant sister Armella Lang.

Viewing will be at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home today and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cremation will be conducted. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday form St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Grabrian, celebrant. Graveside services and burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Barbara M. Lang, 395 Regina Drive, Fort Collins 80525.
