He was born Sept. 29, 1907, in the town of Chilton, son of the late George and Margaret (Daun) Pethan. He had farmed in the town of Brothertown until 1962 and then worked for the City of Chilton until retirement in 1972. He married Gertrude Karls on May 24, 1942 at Jericho. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Chilton; and a member of the Chilton Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Rita) Baer, Menasha; Mrs. Eugene (Henrietta) Schroeder, Appleton; Mrs. Jerry (Darlene) Keuler, Chilton; one son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Dianne Pethan, Chilton; 11 grandchildren; one great grandson; four sisters, Marie Meyers and Rose Propson, both of Chilton; Etta Gruber, Hilbert; and Martha Ecker, Stockbridge.
He was preceded in death by one son, one grandchild and two brothers.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Casper officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
