Martha A Ecker
Stockbridge, WI

Martha A. Ecker, age 91, of Stockbridge, died on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. She was born April 16, 1921 in Charlesburg, daughter of the late George & Margaret (Daun) Pethan. She married Marvin Ecker on April 8, 1942 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Martha loved the time on their farm and the cows, especially her pet Guernsey, Daisy. In addition to farming with her husband, Martha sold Rawleigh's Products, worked at the Turkey Farm, and cooked at the Hiawatha Bar in Quinney. She was known to can anything and everything she could and constantly had polka music playing in the house. That is, of course, until the Lawrence Welk Show started or Hee Haw Came on. Martha truly had a servant's heart who was always so willing to give of herself in order to help others; nothing shown this more vividly than her proudly donating several gallons of blood throughout her life to the American Red Cross. Later in her life, she volunteered numerous hours to the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. She was a devout Catholic who cherished her faith and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, and the Christian Women. Martha also belonged to the Stockbridge American Legion Auxiliary, was an active member of Catholic Family, and was an honorary member of the Quinney Fishing Club. She was always ready to play a round of Sheepshead and started several card clubs in the area. There was never a dull moment in the Ecker household, especially with Martha at the helm. Whether she was selling Christmas Trees, raising St. Bernard's, or buying and selling vegetables, Martha knew that there was always a new adventure ahead of her. Her house was always open, and she went out of her way to make those around her feel welcomed and loved. Survivors include her children: Melvin (Mary) Ecker, Michael (Jodie) Ecker, Butter (Mary Ellen) Ecker, Marlene (Chuck) Grenzer, Marvin Jr. (Patty) Ecker, Mary Kay (Gary) Bancroft; grandchildren: Scott (Fiancée Dawn), Jeffrey, Ricci (Special Friend Beth), Stephanie (Brian), Chris (Sherry), Tim, Mathew (Special Friend Kayla), Mark (Special Friend Diane), Mojo (Jayne), Sheila (Tim), Brian (Stephany), Jeremy (Special Friend Jen), Chad (Sharon), Jered, Brittany (Special Friend Mike), Brandon (Special Friend Emily), Heather (Special Friend Travis); great grandchildren: Makenna, Isaah, Arianna, Casey, Meghan, Natalie, Myles, Amelia, Megan Lee, Ashley, Austin, Ayden, Payton, Landyn, Mya; her Godchildren: Robert Ecker, Ricky Pendleton, Marion Olson, LeRoy Meyers, Darlene Keuler, Charlotte Baker, Jeanne Pethan; a brother-in-law: Roland Gruber; and a sister-in-law: Delores Pethan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Marvin; her brothers and sisters: Henry (Gertrude) Pethan, Roman (Leona) Pethan, Marie (Zeno) Meyers, Rose (Gregor) Propson, Etta Gruber; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: George (Veronica) Ecker, Ray (Rose) Ecker, Hilary (Monica) Ecker, Armand (Mary Ann Dohr) Ecker, Marie (Ervin) Hauser, Florence (Edwin) Schreiner, & Margie (Elmer) Leitner. Funeral service will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (Military Rd) in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2:00 PM until 5:45 PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2012.
