James Wesley Loter, 68, died August 13, 1989 at his home in Denver, CO.
Mr. Loter was born in Wellington, October 14, 1920, the youngest child of the
late James W. Loter and Gertrude Dysart Loter, Collingsworth County Pioneers.
He graduated from Wellington High School in 1937. After graduation, he attended
Texas Tech and Hills Business University of Oklahoma City, before entering the
Army Air Force in 1942. His basic training was at Sheppard Air Force Base at
Wichita Falls.
During World War II in England and later in Germany, he was a service technician
for the Mustang Fighters planes. A crew of 16 men were under his supervision
servicing the planes and keeping them ready for duty. He received several
distinguished medals of honor.
In November 1945 he was discharged from the Air Force and returned to Oklahoma
City where he worked in a bank. Later, he moved to Denver, CO. For 30 years he
was a service technician for Bailey Meter Company.
