CHRIS HANSEN ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS

Chris Hansen, who had been confined to his bed for over a year, during which time he had been totally blind, passed away at his home in the southeast part of Creighton on Monday evening about 9 o'clock.

He was born in Dolland, Denmark on January 23, 1858 and died May 30, 1932 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 7 days.

He grew to young manhood in Denmark and at the age of 20 years he came to America, making the trip alone and went to Cherokee, Iowa, where he worked on the farm of his sister and brother-in-law.

In 1883 he came to Nebraska and secured work with the railroad company building the line from Hartington to Wakefield. In 1884 he located in Cedar county on a farm at Coleridge, where he "batched" for two years.

On April 24, 1886 he was united in marriage to Anna L. Larsen at Wayne, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born, four boys and four girls, one daughter preceding him in death 23 years ago. He continued to farm, moving to Dixon in 1887, where he lived until he came to Knox county on March 1, 1908, living on a farm east of Creighton until 1919 when he moved to town and with the exception of a year at Allen, Nebr., he has continually made his home here.

After Chris came to town he took over the responsibilities of sexton at Greenwood cemetery and fulfilled his duties there for eight years to the satisfaction of all.

During his earthly career, Chris Hansen was ever industrious, a good honest upright citizen and a friend to all. Many are the friendly deeds that he has done for others and he will be kindly remembered by his numerous friends everywhere he has been. For eleven years he served faithfully on the school board of Salem school district and was interested always in the well being of his community.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church when in Denmark, but more recently identified with the Creighton Methodist church.

He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America for 30 years and when he enjoyed vigorous health, took care of the sick and those in sorrow.

For the past three years, his health has been failing and while at Allen he had a stroke that under minded his health. Gradually getting weaker, he became confined to his bed and was overcome by blindness a year ago, and his devoted wife and children have given him the best of care, but in spite of their efforts, he suffered much. He was very cheerful however, and always patient, the end coming as a happy release from suffering and the transporting of his soul to the eternal rest.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife; 4 sons, Louis A. Hansen, Star; Ray E. Hansen, Bloomfield; George and Edward of Creighton; three daughters; Mrs. Ben Mitchell, Allen; Mrs. E.D. Swain, Kansas city, Mo. and Edna of Creighton; 17 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) from the home at 1:30 p.m. and the First Methodist church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William E. Wilson in charge and burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery.
