Greenville Herald Banner, Monday, July 20, 1959, Pg 10- Services Set For John Titus- John Elmer Titus, 79, prominent Hunt County farmer andactive churchman of the Whiterock community, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday in a Greenville hospital. He had been ill for the past five weeks. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Temple Baptist Church. Rev. W. O. Majors and the Rev. J. M. Stringer will officiate and burial will be made in the Webb Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Currin, Floyd Luttrell, Ernest Hayes, C. C. Thomas, W. H. Cagle and Homer Weems. The arrangements were being made by the Gray Sorrells and Sons Funeral Home. Born in Erath County, near Stephensville, June 25, 1880. Mr. Titus was the son of A. G. Titus and Alice Galbreath Titus. He came to Hunt County when a small child and had followed the vocation of farming his entire life. He retired 20 years ago. On December 21, 1904, he was married to Miss Beulah Shanks. A
successful farmer, Mr. Titus was active in church work and one of the influential citizens of Hunt County. He was a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church in Greenville. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Elmer Titus Jr. of the Whiterock Community and Millard Titus, Greenville; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline King, Irving and Mrs. Jennie B. Lacy, Commerce; two brothers, Homer H. Titus, Celeste and J. R. Titus, Dallas; one sister, Mrs. J. R. Granberry, Celeste; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
