2013 Nov 18 - Cadillac - Helen Nelson was born Sunday 12 Aug 1928 in Cadillac to Louis R 'Louie' & Delcie (Yager) Nelson. She married Jack William Christensen Thursday 18 Feb 1946 in Cadillac. She worked for Mercy Hospital in Cadillac for 40 years, retiring when she was 80. She was very dedicated to her job, all her patients and co-workers. She worked in housekeeping, laundry and ended her career working in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Northern Light Church in Cadillac. She was a social butterfly and caretaker. She enjoyed her daily shopping trips and weekly trips to Brite-N Clean Laundromat. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She took care of her husband during his years of failing health.


Helen (Nelson) Christensen of Cadillac died Monday 18 Nov 2013 in Cadillac at the age of 85 y 3 m 6 d in Cadillac. Survivors included 1 daughter; 1 adopted son; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandso; 8 siblings; many nieces and nephews; in-laws; and her beloved cat, Oreo. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack 21 Oct 2011, her parents, Louis 27 Mar 1971 & Delcie 21 Jun 1987; 6 brothers, Abe Nelson 5 Nov 1995, Theodore 'Ted' Nelson, Claud Nelson 14 Sep 1941, Jack Duane Nelson 8 Jul 2003, Oscar Nelson 19 Mar 2005, and James 'Jimmy' Nelson 29 Sep 2013; and 1 sister, Delcie Anderson 15 Oct 1995; in-laws Fern Evelyn 18 Dec 2010 & Kenneth Charles Rudolph 10 Jun 2012; and 1 granddaughter, Jill Christensen.


Visitation was 5-8 pm Wednesday 20 Nov 2013 at Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Funeral services were 11 am Thursday 21 Nov 2013 at Peterson Funeral Home with Pastor John Mellish officiating.


Burial was in Cherry Grove Township Cemetery in Cadillac.
