2013 Sep 29 - Cadillac - James Nelson was born Sunday 26 Dec 1926 in Cadillac to Louis R 'Louie' & Delcie (Yager) Nelson. He married Mary Monday 18 Feb 1946 in Cadillac. He had been employed at the Plywood Company in Cadillac and retired in 1988 from Kysor after over 20 years of employment. He was a member of the American Fish Decoy Association and has been carving since 1938, when he started with Oscar Peterson and has carved more than 6,000 decoys through the years. He also enjoyed ice fishing, spearing, snowmobiling, hunting, and traveling and has been to 48 of the states.


James 'Judd' Nelson of Cadillac died Sunday 29 Sep 2013 at the age of 86 y 9 m 3 d at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. Survivors included his wife, Mary; 10 siblings; 2 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis 27 Mar 1971 & Delcie 21 Jun 1987; 5 brothers, Claud Nelson 14 Sep 1941, Abe Nelson 5 Nov 1995, Jack Nelson 8 Jul 2003, and Oscar Nelson 19 Mar 2005, Theodore Nelson 13 Sep 2006; and 1 sister, Delcie Anderson 15 Oct 1995.


Visitation was 5-7 pm Monday 30 Sep 2013 at Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Funeral Services were 11 am Tuesday 1 Oct 2013 at Peterson Funeral Home with Patricia Nelson officiating.


Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
