EDWARD "GENE" BRIGGS
Edward "Gene" Briggs, age 62, of Grimes, and owner of E.E. Briggs Sodding L.L.C., passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Gene was born Dec. 31, 1940, in the small community of Tipperary, Iowa, to Roy and Louise (Montgomery) Briggs. He was one of nine children, fourth born and the first son.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Morrow in Des Moines.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Roy Briggs; sisters: Marilyn, Genevieve and Darlene.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon; three children: Shawn Briggs of Bondurant, Mike and wife Patricia Briggs of Maxwell, Michele Thompson and husband Brian of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Jordan, Taran, Taylor, Clinton, Laren, Michael and Madison. Also surviving are his mother, Louise Briggs; brothers: Roy and Larry; and sisters: Retta, Sandy and Carol.
Funeral services were held at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Tuesday, July 29, 2003 with burial in the Chariton Cemetery.
