Betty Condry Grogg who is Arthur's granddaughter gave me all this info – Arthur and his wife Maude raised Betty. Betty lived with Arthur and Maude from the time she was born, until she was about 14 or 15yrs old, and she had very fond memories of her grandparents, she said that her mother Nadine was Arthur's favorite. Betty told me that her grandpa Arthur was a real good Christian man Arthur read the bible a lot, he never preached the word of God, but he sure lived it. Arthur kept to himself, didn't talk much to people. Arthur and Maude grew a lot of flowers, no vegetable's just flowers, lots of Roses and Dahlia's. Betty said that their house only had one bed room, so Betty and her grandma Maude shared the bed room, it had two beds in it, and that Arthur slept in a bed in the living room. Betty said that her grandpa Arthur was really good at making shadow figures on the wall with his hands at night time, she would watch him and laugh-he got a lot of happiness watching Betty laugh at him when he would make them. Arthur and Maude bought a lot of things for Betty, like clothes and toys-whatever she wanted she got. Betty also remembers every time she would go somewhere with her grandpa Arthur and people would ask him "who is this little girl" Arthur would say to them "This is the joy of my life". While Betty was living with them Arthur did not own a vehicle nor did he drive, he would call a cab, and his coworkers would always pick him up for work and drop him off. After his wife Maude died, Arthur would take Betty and go visit Maude's grave every weekend, they would take a cab. Arthur built his house, and it is still standing. Betty said that one day when she was about 13 or 14 yrs old her grandpa Arthur said to her "Honey as bad as I hate to see you go, you've got to go live with your momma now" and that is when she moved out of Arthur's house and in with her mother. Betty said her Grandpa Arthur did not live long after that, she thinks he knew he was going to die soon and that is why he made Betty go live with her mother. Betty said that Arthur was an very good craftsman with wood, he was a cabinet maker and finishing carpenter for the Cassel Brothers Construction company, they built new homes and he would do all the wood finishing in the houses like the wood trim and the cabinets. Arthur died on the job while working. She remembers he would walk to the church and do fixup's to it for free, as the church was in walking distance. Betty said that her grandpa Arthur was a real honest christian man. Betty also told me that her Grandpa Arthur's middle name was "Sullivan".
