Former Hastings area resident Donald L. Classen, 73, of Omaha, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Hospice House in Omaha.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Helmut Yurk officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Classen was born Feb. 26, 1926, to Louis and Louise (Meyer) Classen in Glenvil. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1943. He then became manager of Campbell Grain Elevator in Campbell. On Feb. 19, 1948, he married Eloise Carney in Campbell. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. From 1954-77 he managed the Ayr Grain Elevator in Ayr. In 1977 he and his wife moved to Axtell where they owned and operated Orange Coach Restaurant. They retired in 1997 and moved to Omaha.
He was a member of the Omaha American Legion No. 374.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Beth Classen of Lincoln and Mary Carlson of Omaha; two sons, David of Riverdale and Alan of St. Louis; two brothers, Willard of Des Moines, Iowa, and Roger of Sonoma, Calif.; two sisters, Marilyn Schmidt of Hastings and Genene Hansen of Minden.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice House in Omaha or to the Blue Valley Cemetery Association.
