Former Hastings resident, Marilyn Louise Schmidt, 82, passed away September 24, 2018, at her home in Lincoln, NE.

Celebration of Life is 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Andrea Paulson officiating. Private family burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings.

Marilyn was born October 7, 1935, to Louis & Louise (Meyer) Classen in Hastings, NE. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1953 and married L. J. Schmidt on July 15, 1956, in Hastings NE. Jay passed away March 23, 2002.

Marilyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend to many. She was very proud of her family and was thrilled when she became a grandmother and later a great-grandmother. Marilyn was very active with the Adams County Extension Group, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and spent many hours baking, quilting, and playing cards. Marilyn was also a part owner of the Calico Cottage fabric store in Hastings with her close friends, until retirement.

Marilyn lived most of her life in Hastings moving to Lincoln in July 2013 to be close to family. Marilyn lived at the Legacy Independent Living Facility in Lincoln, NE where she enjoyed meeting new people, playing cards, and Wii bowling. She was a member of an Elite group of ladies affectionately called the Squad.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant brother, Dale; teenage brother, Lamoine; brother, Donald; sister-in-law, Eloise; sister, Genene; and brother-in-law, Don Hansen.
