OBITUARY:
RUSSELL BACON DIES IN DEKALB HOSPITAL
Russell Bacon, 15 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. George Bacon, who live on a farm about seven miles southwest of Sycamore, died in the Glidden hospital in DeKalb Monday night following an accident in which his brain was pierced by a tine of a pitchfork. The tragedy took place before the eyes of both the father and mother. Russell's 13 year old brother, Paul was cleaning out the barn about 4 o'clock Monday afternoon and was just in the act of throwing out a pitchfork of refuse when Russell stepped into the doorway. A tine of the fork pierced Russell's left eye and entered his brain. He was rushed to the DeKalb hospital in an unconscious condition from which he never recovered, and died at 9:30 o'clock. A coroner's jury heard the story recounted yesterday afternoon at the Kebil undertaking parlors.

PAUL TELLS HOW IT HAPPENED
Striving bravely to hold back his tears, 13 year old Paul Bacon related to the coroner's jury yesterday how the accident happened. He was engaged in pitching out the refuse of the cow barn when his brother suddenly came into the doorway on his way in with some silage and was stabbed in the left eye with the fork. "He usually hollered when he came through the door," Paul said, "but he didn't holler this time and my fork hit him," Paul's words rebuilt the tragic picture in his mind, and unable to restrain himself further, he burst into tears. Under the kindly questioning of Coroner R.P. Culver, Paul wiped his tear stained face and went on to tell that his brother had not even cried out, but had stood still for several minutes before falling to the ground unconscious. The mother, Mrs. George Bacon, did not testify from the witness stand but added that Paul's story was exactly as she had seen it, except that Russell had fallen instantly. It probably had seemed a long time to Paul, she said, but it was only a moment.

BORN IN MAYFIELD
Russell Bacon was born in Mayfield township Nov. 27, 1921, one of 11 children of Mr. And Mrs. George Bacon. The family moved a short time ago to the George Drake farm two miles east and two miles south of DeKalb.
