He was born July 23, 1929, in DeKalb County, the son of the late George and Edith (King) Bacon. After living in Bristol for many years he moved to Holcombe in 1972. Elmer served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII and was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was a truck driver and mechanic before his retirement. On November 6, 1950, he married Anna Mae Welstead in Hannibal, MO, and she preceded him in death on July 29, 1967.
Survivors include four sons, Russell (Dawn) of Bristol, WI, Brian (Melanie) of Holcombe, WI, Robert (Jennifer) of Burlington, WI and James L. of Bristol; two daughters, Catherine (Robert) Jenquin of Green Bay, WI and Dayna Bacon of Kenosha, WI; his dear companion, Judy Bacon of Bristol, WI; five sisters, Nellie Smith, Jean Cornell and Georgia Sester, all of Kingston, Violet Ramey of Whitesburg, TN and Phyllis (Warren) Parkins of Sommerset, KY; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilmer, Walter and Paul, and one sister, Donna Grimm.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Hosmer Cemetery, Bristol, WI. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
