John Zettler, 84, of route 5, Marshfield, died at 8:30 o'clock Saturday evening at Marathon County Hospital, Wausau where he had been a patient for the past nine months. Death resulted from a complication of ailments and old age.
Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt, the Rev. S. E. Rathke officiating. Burial will take place at Hewitt. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon until the time of the funeral services.
Mr. Zettler, who at one time took an active part in civic affairs, was born in Manitowoc Dec. 25, 1857, and was educated in public and parochial schools there. He came to this vicinity early in the 1880s and worked in a sawmill.
Fifty-four years ago he was married in Hewitt to Sophia Grunberg, who died Sept. 23, 1929. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Zettler settled on a farm on Route 5, which had since served as his home.
Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Arthur (Emma) Bruckert, Marshfield; Mrs. Lawrence (Frieda) Koppy, Mrs. Truman (Julia) Moody, and Alvin Zettler, all of St. Paul; Edmund Zettler, route 5, Marshfield; Mrs. Merton (Betty) Howard, Marshfield; and Norman Zettler, St. Paul; a brother, Frank Zettler, Mankato, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Anna Bliesener, Bay City, Mich.; and seven grandchildren.
