Pioneer Women Dies In Tacoma

Mrs. Elizabeth J. Byrd, 62 years, widow of Lewis J. Byrd, a pioneer of Pierce county and sheriff of the county in 1883, died Sunday night in a Tacoma hospital. She was a native of Washington, the daughter of John M. Thomas, who lived at what is now Thomas Station on the Interurban, about 15 miles from Tacoma. Her home at the time of her death was at 160 North Proctor street. She is survived by two sons, Lewis A. and John T. Byrd; three daughters; Mrs. Clara Humphrey, and Misses Norma and Alma Byrd, and three grandchildren, all of Tacoma. Funeral Tuesday, 3 p.m. from George A. Piper's; burial Tacoma cemetery.
