Lewis Byrd Dies Of Heart Trouble
Native Son Was A Member of Pioneer Family
Walter Lewis Byrd, 67 years old, a member of the well-known Byrd family, died at the family home, 1606 North Proctor street, yesterday morning of heart trouble.
He was a native of Tacoma, the son of Andrew Byrd, the pioneer of Steilacoom and builder of the Byrd sawmill on Chamber creek and the Byrd schoolhouse, among the first schools in the state.
Mr. Byrd was sheriff in 1885. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Byrd; five children, Lewis A., John, Claire, Norma and Alma, all of Tacoma; a brother, Harvey of Sumner and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from G. W. Piper's, with Rev. W. Chalmers Gunn officiating. Burial will be in Tacoma Cemetery.
