Mrs. Chester A. (Eva S.) Humphrey of Rt. 1, Box 276, Lakebay, granddaughter of Tacoma-area pioneer Adam Byrd,
died Friday. She was 79.
Her grandfather came to Tacoma in the early 1850's. Shortly after the pioneers death, Mrs. Humphrey's father, Andrew Byrd, built a dam, sawmill and then the Byrd grist mill in Steilacoom.
Born in Tacoma, Mrs. Humphrey moved to Lakebay in 1957. She was a member of Lakebay Community Church.
Besides her husband, survivors include a brother, John Byrd of Seattle, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are Wednesday, 2 p.m. at the Tacoma Cemetery with the Rev. A. Clark Smith officiating.
