Daisy Russell Swearengin, age 100, 7 months, and 14 days of Aurora, passed away Sunday March 18, 2012, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab.

She was born Aug. 4, 1911, to John Riley and Lillie Carter Russell in Loy, Ar.

She was the fourth of 11 children. Her father earned a living by farming and preaching. In May 929 she graduated from the 8th grade in Kingston. She did some library work and taught classes in school She went on to finish her education by boarding with Ola Burk in Everton. Daisy married Mart Swearengin on August 2, 1931. They spent most of their 60 years together working on their farm and raising their three children. They were also instrumental in raising nine of their 12 grandchildren. Daisy was a very colorful lady, Godly, and virtuous. She didn't learn to drive until later in life, but when she did, she'd load all of her grandchildren into the pickup and drive all over the country side attending a different church every Sunday. Preaching and singing God's praises were her passion and she never missed an opportunity to do just that. She loved her family, her farm, the creeks, pastures, garden, waterfalls, and cave. She was a huge inspiration to all of those who loved her. Heaven will never be the same now that she's arrived. Her wish for the future was for more people to be right with the Lord and be a light for Jesus. May she forever be happy, contented, and free.

She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Morales, her son John Paul Swearengin, two grandsons, Jackson Ward and Ernest Ward, 10 granddaughters; Nancy Jo Ward, Marta Ward, Elaine Tolbert, Charletta McKee, Natalie Wilhite, Marleen Ledbetter, Angela Wilhite, Brenda Denio, Christy Osbourn, and Kimberly Swearengin; 18 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren, and siblings; Aaron Russell, John Russell, Nancy Reynolds, and Samuel Elizabeth Russell.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Burtin Swearengin, daughter, Ruth Swearengin Furr, brothers and sisters; Theodore Russell, Paul Russell, Mary Russell, Steven Russell, Lillie May Russell, and James Russell.

Cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Daisy's honor at Aurora Community Center on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 2-6 p.m.
