Fifth child of nine by Samuel Smurl and Mary Daly. News reports say she died at the Retreat Hospital, an asylum in the Wilkes-Barre area.

Miss Maggie Smurl, who had been an inmate at the Asylum, at Retreat, died there yesterday, aged 34 [sic] years. The remains were brought by undertaker Marley yesterday afternoon to the home of the brother of the deceased, 401 [sic] Scott Street, from where the funeral took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be at the city cemetery.

The funeral of Maggie Smurl, who died Monday, took place this afternoon from the home of her brother, John Smurl, 397 Scott street. The pall bearers were: Andrew Coyle, Chas. Bonner, Conny Cannon and M. Lynch. Interment was made in the City cemetery in charge of Undertaker Marley.
