Mary was the wife of Samuel Smurl. She was born in Glenmanus, Derry, Ireland [Portrush is the closest town] in 1834, to Frederick DAYLEY, shoemaker. Married Sam 12 Feb 1853 in Colraine, Derry, Ireland. Immigrated in Aug 1854 with her husband, where they had ten children together. Life was difficult but became so unbearable after the death of daughters Emma and Jane, when their home was sucked into a mine cave-in that Mary turned to drink. Both the death notice and cemetery records have Mary listed as 70 yrs old, but all census listings and the immigration records consistently place her DOB as 1834.
