Death of Grandma Mayberry
Mrs. Eliza Mayberry died at her home near Hall post office, Oklahoma, on Dec. 23, after illness of several weeks duration. The funeral took place on Dec. 25th at Fairview cemetery, five miles east of Noble, Rev. Ethridge preaching the funeral service.
Mrs. Mayberry was born in Manchester, England, in September, 1840, and came to America when she was seven years old. Her first husband was James Kelley , of Cincinnati, by whom she had one son, John Kelley, who survives her, residing in Pottawatomie county. She was married to Wm. Mayberry at St. Louis on Sept. 20th, 1864. The result of this union was five children, only two of whom are now living, Henry Mayberry and Mrs. Pearl Cooper. She is also held in most affectionate remembrance by the several children of Mr. Mayberry by a former marriage.

Eliza was the daughter of Allen and Mary (Hopley) Harper. Her family came to the United States in 1847, after living in New York State for several years they moved to Illinois. Eliza's first husband James Kelley was killed in the Civil War. She married William Mayberry three days before he was disharged. He was 26 years older than her. His wife had died in 1863 leaving him with ten children to raise. The oldest was older than Eliza and the youngest just a baby. They lived in Kansas. Frederick Harper (Eliza's brother) worked as a hired hand for them. He married Cassandra, William's daughter, so Eliza's step-daughter was also her sister-in-law. Fred and Cassandra moved to Illinois. William and Eliza and family moved to Texas and then to the Oklahoma Territory, where William died in 1899 and Eliza passed away in 1901 at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 27 days.
