Winton Cecil Brown, 89, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 16, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 18 at Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Fred Copeland and Fate Wilson officiated.

Mr. Brown was born May 5, 1912, in Hilham, TN, the son of William Henry and Malley Florence Rich Brown.
He was a farmer.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Brown, James Brown, Michael Brown and Melvin Brown, all of Sparta, Ernest Brown of Murfreesboro and David Brown of New York; daughters, Ena Mae Dickenson of Crossville, Joanna Golden of Smithville and Carolyn Norris of Sparta; brothers, Ather Brown and Oscar Brown, both of Sparta, and Ed Brown of Nashville; sisters, Rose Belauh Smith of Hilham, Josie Mae Carmack of Indianapolis, IN, and Marion Fanam of Dayton, OH; 41 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Malley Brown; 18 brothers and sisters; four sons; and two daughters.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
