Wednesday the 12, instant, called us together for rather a sad occasion; we were to lay to rest not only a beloved brother, but the husband of a sorely grieved widow and the father of eight children. The funeral of Herman Suhr teaches us the fact that death makes no distinction, but calls away the support of a family as well as him on whose help no one need rely. Because of the sadness of this death a large number had convened both at the house and at the church to show their heart felt sympathy for the bereaved family.
Mr. Suhr was born at Vissehoefeder, in the Province of Hannover, Germany, December 6, 1855. When 15 years of age he came to America locating in New York where he remained 7 years. From New York he moved to Ohio, living in this state until he came to Colorado about 4 years ago. In Ohio he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Albers. To this union 11 children were born, 3 of whom have gone before to the realms of bliss, 8 remaining to share the grief of their mother. Besides a number of more distant relatives the deceased leaves 3 brothers to mourn his departure, viz, Henry Suhr of Evansport, Ohio, Theodore of South Bend, Indiana, and George, of Kelley's Island, Ohio. Deceased had a complication of diseases beginning with inflammatory rheumatism, inflammation of the bowels setting in later on; after about 3 weeks of much suffering the Lord called him home.
Brief services were held in the house and church by the undersigned, who spoke on the text Job 5; 17, 18, pointing out that even in darkest hours of trial the grace of the Lord appears unto us. We sincerely hope that God will give our friends the true healing balm through the Word of Christ crucified, and supplement what our weak human tongue could not speak. - Wm. O. Leitz
