LAKE CITY: Mr. Charles W. Altman, 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 31st, 2011.

Mr. Altman was born in Florence County on March 9th, 1934. He was a son of the late John Briley Altman and the late Juanita Eaddy Altman and was the husband of Shirley Johnson Altman of Lake City. Mr. Altman owned and operated "Charles Altman Motors" for over forty-four years in Lake City. He was a licensed pilot and avid boater and enjoyed flying and racing his boat in his free time. Mr. Altman was a regular at Prosser's Café for over fifty years where he enjoyed fellowship and lively conversation with his buddies over coffee. He was a deeply Christian and spiritual man who loved serving the Lord. Mr. Altman was a long-time member of Lake City First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Jeff Jeffords Sunday School Class and served as a Deacon of the church. He was a kind, friendly, and very generous and giving person who would help anyone in need. If Mr. Altman thought anybody needed anything, he felt as if he should take care of it personally, and most often, he would. Mr. Altman gave freely to those who were without. He would do without, just so that others may have. Mr. Altman was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Altman's surviving family includes his wife, Shirley J. Altman, of the home; his two sons, Michael Altman (Jennifer), of Florence, and Jeffery Altman (Jennifer), of New Zion; and his three grandchildren, Ashley Altman, of Columbia, and Blake Altman and Banks Altman, of New Zion. Mr. Altman is preceded in death by his four siblings; his two sisters, Eleta Bartell and Jeanette Wesley; and his two brothers, Marshall Ray Altman and Bobby Altman.
