Our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ervil Dar Asay, 91, passed away December 14, 2011 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born December 20, 1919 in Cannonville, Utah, the son of Joseph Edward and Susan Sariah Johnson Asay.
Ervil moved from Cannonville to Price, Utah at a very young age. He grew up in Price where he met his eternal companion, Belva Herring. They were married May 10, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. He had lived in Salt Lake, Roosevelt, Cedar City, St George and most recently Bountiful, Utah.
Ervil was an active member of the LDS Church having served in the Bishopric, and many years in the scouting program. He served as an ordinance worker in the St George Temple. Ervil and Belva also served a mission in England.
Ervil was a kind, gentle, loving man who loved and taught his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren many important things. He will be missed by many.
Ervil spent most of his life saving ‘soles' as a shoe repair man. He made shoes for the first Shakespearean Plays in Cedar City. He was an expert self-taught upholsterer. He served his country in the Navy during World War II.
Ervil is survived by his five children, Saundra (Richard) Rice, Cedar City; Ronald Lee (Joan) Asay, Indianapolis, Indiana; Sheila Davies, Salt Lake City; Nila (Dale) Randall, Salt Lake City; Sue Ellen (Richard) Gowen, Salt Lake City; 22 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 1 brother Zane (Jan) Asay. Ervil was preceded in death by his wife, Belva, married 68 years; son-in-law Gary Reber Sandberg; 3 grandchildren; 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Legacy House Bountiful and Aspire Home Health and Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 100 South Main Street, Bountiful. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment Georgetown Cemetery
