Born July 10, 1922, in Adams County, Irene was a daughter of George and Josephine Mixer Goertz. She married Dallas Wharton; Everett Kindhart who died on Jan. 17, 1980. She then married Frank Evans. He died Dec. 1, 1994.
Irene was a member of the Camp Point United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women. She was a 61-year member of the Clayton American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered with RSVP. She enjoyed playing cards, polka music and dancing.
Survivors include three sons, Ivan Wharton (Betty) of Quincy, Robert Wharton (Carolyn) of Camp Point, and Jim Kindhart of Camp Point; a daughter, Mary Smith (Don) of Mesa, Ariz.; a stepson, Gary Evans (Marcy) of Camp Point; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Dallas Wharton, Everett Kindhart and Frank Evans.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Camp Point United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joe Tomich and the Rev. Ronald Graham. Burial will be at South Side Cemetery in Clayton.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Camp Point United Methodist Church.
MEMORIALS: Camp Point United Methodist Church or Timberpoint Healthcare Center Activity Fund.
