Wilbur L. Goertz, 88, of Clayton died Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born in Adams County, the only son of George and Josephine Anna Mixer Goertz.

Mr. Goertz owned and operated his own trucking service. He was a member of Clayton Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Clayton American Legion Post 286, and was a former member of the Clayton Fire Department.

He attended Varner School near Kellerville and East School near Beverly, IL.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the Philippine Islands.

Survivors include three sisters, Doris Pruett of Abingdon, Edna Parn and her husband William of Clayton, and Irene Evans of Camp Point; 12 nieces and nephews; and a host of great and great great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Goertz was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services were conducted March 6 in the Hamilton Funeral Home by the Rev. Ed Blumenkanp. Burial was in South Side Cemetery in Clayton, with military rites by Clayton American Legion Post 286.

Pallbearers were Ivan Wharton, Robert Wharton, Lyle Parn, Jeff Kindhart, Gary Kindhart, Steve Parn. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Syrcle, Ronnie Syrcle and Jim Kindhart.
