He was adopted by the Herman Sellwood family Dec. 11, 1909 of Burlington, Iowa. New name is: Malen Louis Sellwood. He is not included in Hermans obit either? Herman and his wife Ella adopted my grandfather.

Grandpas natural father was Capt Lensford Ellis Adams;who was the adopted child of John Quincy & Rosa Adams.

Son of Lensford Ellis Adams Sellwood and Sarah Agnes Bonner; daughter of William Bonner of Wisconsin.

I never met him as I was born after his death.

Maley Lensford Ellis Sellwood was born Malen Lensford Ellis Adams in La Cross Wisconsin. His mother abandoned the children and he was put up for adoption in Ottumwa, Iowa. His natural father was Capt. Lensford Ellis and his natural mother was Sarah Bonner of McGregor; Clayton County Iowa. He was adopted by the Sellwood family.Grandpa had a half brother Francis Sellwood. His name was changed to Malen Louis Sellwood.

Maley L. Sellwood 36 of Guggerty street, died at his home Monday at 10:55 AM.

He was the adoptive son of Herman and Ella Parker Sellwood and was born in La Crosse Wisconsin on April 06, 1902. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last 14 years. He was employed at John Morrell & Co.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; three daughters; Ollie,(MY MOM) Maxine and Mabel Lou Sellwood; two sons, James and Maley Jr; his parents Herman and Ellen Sellwood of Agency; a sister Mrs. Mabel Hanford of Glenwood and two brothers; Charles Adams of Ottumwa and Francis Sellwood of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Sellwood.

Services will be in Johnson's funeral chapel at Ottumwa Wednesday at 1:30 pm, conducted by the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.

Primary cause of death:Hypostate Pnemonia
1. pneumonia resulting from infection developing in the dependent portions of the lungs due to decreased ventilation of those areas, with resulting failure to drain bronchial secretions; occurs primarily in old people or those debilitated by disease who remain recumbent in the same position for long periods.
Secondary cause of death:Influenza-Myocarditis (Swelling of heart)
Mom told me that he would swell up too. (dropsy)
