OTTUMWA Edith Maxine Songer, 77, of 802 Ellis Ave., died at 8 a.m. June 3, 2010, at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born July 14, 1932, in Ottumwa to Maley and Helen Myers Sellwood. She married Teddy M. Songer June 18, 1949, in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2007.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday school for 22 years as well as sang in the choir. She enjoyed being a housewife and a mother to her twin boys, Garry and Larry. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Chad (Charity) Songer of Caledonia, Mich., and Heather (Nick) Bolin of Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Chloe, Rheese, Lily and Grant; a sister, Alice (Chuck) Eaton of Ottumwa; and a brother, James Sellwood of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her twin sons, Garry and Larry Songer; a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Songer; two sisters, Ollie Lanigan and Mabel Songer; and three brothers, Bob Bennett, Maley "Junior" Sellwood and Charles Sellwood.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple; the Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. this evening.
Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Baptist Temple.
