Friederich was the son of Franz Flick and Margaret Betzer (b. 1806 d. 1890 in New Orleans, La.). He immigrated with his family in about 1847 to New Orleans. The family, in 1850, consisted of the following: Margaret (b.1832 married Jacob Eichhorn), Catherine (b. 1834 d. 1892 married Hubertus Wax), Frederick (b. 1835 d. 1890 married Anna Mary Simon), Ferdinand (b. 1838 d. 1919 married Mary Ann Gobin), Caroline (b. 1842 d. 1873 married Anton Estein), Ernest (b. 1844 d. before 1870), and John (b. 1845 d. 1889 married Augusta Hartdegen).

Friederich married Anna Mary Simon, October 13, 1860 in Calhoun County, Texas. Anna Mary was the daughter of Mathias Simon and Caroline Weber. Friederich was a wheelwright/carriage maker. Friederich and Anna Flick had 11 children: Alvina (married Henry Joseph Lienhard(t)), Caroline (married Ivory Sheild), Raymond Charles (married Annie Laurie Wasserman), Ferdinand (b. 1868 d. 1893 , burial in Hillside Cemetery), Hubert (1870-January 1897), August Henry (married Elizabeth Leona North Marshall), Bertha M. (married Lawrence A. Marshall), Charles Roland (married Etta Mae Hynds), Paulina Margaret (married Cecil Ralph Matthews), Lydia (married Joseph Bernard Collins), and Joseph Albert (married Ona Baringer).

Friederich served in the Civil War. He was on the Confederate side, Company "B", 4th Battalion, Texas Artillery (Shea's Battalion, under Daniel D. Shea), and was a private going in and a private coming out (film #M227, roll 12).

Family history has Friederich being born in the Hamburg area of Germany but evidence suggests he was born in an area called Altenstadt, near Weissenburg, Bayern, Germany.
