From "The Birmingham News", dated Friday, September 23, 1949:

"MATTHEWS - Mrs. Pauline Flick Matthews, 1128 S. 14th St., passed away at the residence Thursday p.m. Survived by 1 son, Cecil J. Matthews, Birmingham; 1 granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Matthews (daughter of Cecil Joseph Matthews and Marguerite Dunnett, born about 1938); 1 sister, Mrs. J.B. Collins (Lydia Flick, married Joseph Bernard Collins), Houston, Texas. The body will be shipped to Cuero, Texas, by Johns for funeral services Monday. Interment Cuero, Texas"
