Obituary, from "The Tennessean," dated February 3, 1940, page 3:

"C.R. FLICK DIES IN HIS APARTMENT

C. Roland Flick, violinist and song writer, died at 9 o'clock last night in his apartment at the Maxwell House following a heart attack.

Mr. Flick long has been active in musical circles of Nashville, both as a violin teacher and as sponsor for many promising young musicians. During his lifetime he wrote many songs, the best known of which was "Shadows Across My Heart."

Born in Cuero, Texas, Mr. Flick was educated in the schools there and then entered the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Later he studied the violin in Berlin, Germany.

VIOLIN TEACHER

Coming back to the United States he became associated with the old Ward Seminary as a teacher of violin. He also was a violin instructor in old Buford College here. Some years ago Mr. Flick went to Atlanta, where both he and his wife took an active part in music circles and moved to Columbia, S.C., where he remained for 8 months.

Returning to Nashville, Mr. Flick became associated with the Roy Warden Piano Company and remained there until his death. He was a member of McKendree Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Etta Mae Hinds (Hynds) Flick, and three sisters; Miss Carrie Flick of Cuero, Texas; Mrs. Joe Collins of Houston, Texas; and Mrs. C. Ralph Matthews of Birmingham, Ala.

Services are set for 11 a.m. in Atlanta. Burial in Atlanta's Decatur Cemetery."

My notes:

Charles went by the professional name of C. Roland Flick. He received his music education at the Cincinnati Conservatory as a student of Jacob Bloom and he attended the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, Germany, as a student of Max Donner. He taught at Harpeth High School in Nashville and at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. He and his wife had no children.
