From the "San Antonio Light" newspaper, dated January 17, 1897:

"Herbert (sic) Flick, a well known young man of Cuero, crazed from drink, committed suicide at that place (Cuero) last Sunday."

From "The Times-Picayune, dated Tuesday, January 12, 1897, page 7:

"Cuero, January 11 - Herbert (sic) Flick, a well known young man, in a fit of delirium, stabbed himself last night, from the effects of which he died today."

Also, from the "Gonzales Inquirer," January 14, 1897:

"Cuero, Texas - January 12, yesterday afternoon, Hubert Flick, who stabbed himself twenty-odd times about the heart with a pen knife the day before, died of his wounds. He was a young man of 27 years and was well liked in this community where he was reared.

He was a saddler by trade and held a lucrative position with his brother, R.C. Flick, of this city, at the time of his death. His many friends will learn of his untimely end with much regret. The funeral took place this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the family residence and the remains were followed to the cemetery by a long line of sorrowing friends."
