Born on Aug. 25, 1906, in Sandusky County to Benjamin L. and Maude (Garner) Smith, he married Stella S. Stopher-Lewis. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Delores Smith of Clyde, Joyce Holcomb of Gibsonburg, Carol Bouldin of Helena; sons, Kenneth and James, both of Helena, Thomas of Fremont and Richard of Toledo; 36 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother Virgil of Vaughsville, Ohio and a sister, Grace Alcorn of Lodi, Calif. He was preceded by two wives, Mae E. Morgan, she died in 1937 and Orvetta Ostrander, she died in 1978; two sons, Benjamin and Edward, and a daughter, Rosemary; a grandson, Leslie Smith; three brothers and a sister and a step son - Carl Lewis.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Moose, the Eagles, the Basic Refractory Quarter Century Club, Clowns of Ohio and the WSOS Senior Citizens. He was a foreman at Basic Refactory, retiring in 1969 after 32 years. He also worked as a piano tuner.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thusday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
