Clair Spires

FOSTORIA - Clair Spires, 80, Fostoria, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 in Fostoria Community Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1919 in Gallia County, son of the late Lewis and Pansy Walsh Spires, he retired from Fostoria Distribution Co. in 1986, where he was a forklift operator.

He was previously employed at Fostoria Chrysler, Bersted, Superette and the Toledo Jeep Plant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Stahl Spires, whom he married Jan. 16, 1947 in Fostoria; two sons, David and Douglas Spires of Fostoria; two daughters, Pat Harris and Mrs. Dennis (Amy) Waltermyer, both of Fostoria; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Spires of Defiance; and five sisters, Dorothy Underwood and Millie Heinze, both of Fostoria, Marie Power of Huntington, W.Va., Virginia Addlesburger of Gallipolis, and Hilda French of McConnellsville.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence, Ralph, Emerson, Chester and Stanley Spires; and two sisters, Marjorie Gardner and Frances Spires.

Services were held Thursday, Sept. 16, 2000 in Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Burial was in Knollcrest Cemetery, near Acadia, with military honors by United Veterans of Fostoria. Visitation was held in the funeral home on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
