Rogers Ark., December 16 – James A. Rice died at his home in Bentonville at 6 o'clock this morning after a brief illness following a general breakdown. He was sixty years old and is survived by his wife and four children. He was born in McMinn county, Tennessee in 1850, coming to this county with his parents in 1857 and settled on Pea Ridge where he grew to manhood, attended school, studied law and taught school from time to time and later entered the law office of Judge J.D. Walker at Fayetteville. Mr. Rice was elected to the state legislature in 1874 and again in 1875. He was admitted to the bar in 1876 and in 1877 opened an office in Bentonville where he had a wide practice and was classed with the leading lawyers of the state.
